Russia relocated less than 20% of their army from Kyiv region - Pentagon

No occupiers' unit has returned to their places of permanent deployment in Russia, so the United States considers it a repositioning, not a troops' withdrawal.

In the last 24 hours, Russia has relocated a small percentage of its troops from the Kyiv region. The movement of less than 20% of the forces concentrated against Kyiv was recorded.

Pentagon Press Secretary, John Kirby, announced this at a briefing.

"Some of those troops we assess are repositioning into Belarus. We don't have an exact number for you, but that's our early assessments," the spokesman said.

He stressed that none of the servicemen repositioned to the home garrison; the troops simply had a refitting but did not return to their places of permanent deployment, as they should during the de-escalation.

Some of the enemy's forces are repositioning from the Kyiv region to Belarus.

"Yes, they're leaving Kyiv and heading more towards the north. Yes, away from the city," - reported Kirby.

He also stated that Kyiv is still being attacked by artillery fire and airstrikes.

The Pentagon claims that the Russians are also partially moving away from Sumy and Chernihiv. The same percentage of this redeployment is to Belarus as in the Kyiv region.

Russia linked the withdrawal of troops from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions to the fact that its occupiers "fulfilled their tasks" there. The General Staff said that the Russian Federation was indeed withdrawing some units from the territory of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions but was regrouping them to focus its main efforts on the Slobozhanskyy and Donetsk areas.

The Ministry of Defense stressed that the Russians from Kyiv and Chernihiv did not withdraw their forces completely. The United States believes that Russia's statements about the alleged withdrawal of some troops from the Ukrainian capital are a repositioning, not a withdrawal, as claimed by the Kremlin.

On March 30, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the enemy was partially withdrawing specific units of its armed forces from the territory of Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts. At the same time, during the exit from the settlements of the Kyiv region, the occupiers mined not only the area but also the houses of civilians.
