Public figure and musician Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, said that today "Ukraine is paying a terrible price for the protection of the whole free world. And we ask them to pay a price too, not so terrible."
Vakarchuk's story about what he saw in Ukrainian cities, about Ukrainians and the Ukrainian Armed Forces was published on the YouTube channel the Ukrainian Witness project.
Since the beginning of the war, the public figure and musician has traveled a lot in Ukraine and supported people who suffered the bombing. Also, Vakarchuk delivers humanitarian aid to the military and civilians.
In an interview with the Ukrainian Witness, Vakarchuk talked about the current state of Ukrainian cities. "From what I saw, the most physically suffered is Okhtyrka, because Okhtyrka is a half-destroyed city. They don't have whole neighborhoods, whole districts," the musician said.
According to him, there are a lot of destroyed houses in the Sumy region, but they are localized in some areas.
Vakarchuk noted that it is much worse on the front line, because civilians have a chance to hide, and "the military have no such chance, they go and put themselves in danger. I do not understand why I have to hide behind their backs."
"Our task is to convey to Europeans, Americans, and all people of the free world that today Ukraine is paying a terrible price for the protection of the whole free world," the public figure added.
The Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration Dmytro Zhyvytskyy reported on 2 March that active fighting continued in the region – Russia bombarded Okhtyrka again.
