Switzerland will support the decision to close access to EBRD resources for the Russian Federation and Belarus

Switzerland will officially support the decision to close the access of Russia and Belarus to the assets of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Finance.

This position was confirmed by the Minister of Finance of the Swiss Confederation, Uli Maurer, on March 31 during an online meeting with the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko.

During the conversation, Marchenko emphasized the importance of closing the access of Russia and Belarus to the resources of the EBRD. Maurer said that his country would support such a decision.

Also, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine drew the attention of the interlocutor to the presence of considerable Russian financial assets in the banks of Switzerland. Marchenko asked Maurer to impose sanctions against them.

"It is critical that Russia does not have ways to avoid sanctions, especially in the banking sector. Sanctions against Russia should be tightened," - the Head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance stressed.

Marchenko thanked to the Swiss government for the support of Ukraine, in particular, for the imposition of sanctions against the Russian Federation. Today, the Swiss list of sanctioning persons fully corresponds to the sanctions policy of the European Union.

Earlier, on March 28, it became known that the EBRD was closing its offices in Moscow and Minsk.

On March 24, Switzerland said it had frozen 6.2 billion dollars belonging to the Russians. Currently, the banks of the country store on offshore accounts about 213 billion dollars belonging to the citizens of the aggressor country.
