Almost 40,000 residents of Mariupol were deported to russia or to the territory of DPR. However, the counting of deportees is complicated by the fact that Ukrainian documents are confiscated from people. This was stated by the Commissioner for Human Rights of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova.

She said that some children are separated from their parents.

"17 children who were treated were taken out of the hospital in Mariupol. Their parents remained and they were evacuated to the city of Zaporizhia," Denisova said.

She said that some of the forcibly deported Mariupol residents were found in Estonia, where they entered from the territory of the russian federation. In addition to the residents of Mariupol, people from Kherson, Kharkiv, and Luhansk regions reached Estonia in the same way through russia.

According to them, some of these people decided to go through russia because they could not go to Western Ukraine. At the same time, there were people who were forcibly sent to russia and then allowed to travel at their own discretion.

"The occupying country of the russian federation grossly violates the provisions of Article 49 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which prohibits the forced relocation or deportation of people from the occupied territories," the Ukrainian ombudsman said.

As reported, a 12-year-old orphan, Kira Obedinska, is one of the residents of Mariupol forcibly deported by the occupiers. She was deported to Donetsk together with people with whom she was in a custody. Her father, the champion of Ukraine in water polo Yevhen Obedinskyy, died on 17 March during an air bombardment in Mariupol, Kira lost her mother while still an infant.

In addition, the occupiers forcibly deported to russia personnel and patients of maternity hospitals in Mariupol.
