Findings of first Irpin demining: bombs, Iskander remnants, cluster munitions

The first stage of Irpin demining in the Kyiv region has been completed. This was announced by the head of the National Police of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko.

Specialists of the relevant services have inspected the bases of the russian army and active combat operations as well as abandoned combat positions, and all the streets of the city.

"The whole world has seen the consequences of the russian military's presence in the Kyiv region, as well as the atrocities committed by the military against civilians. Therefore, after the liberation from the occupiers, the work of the police was primarily aimed at strengthening the police presence there for patrolling, sweeping reconnaissance and sabotage groups, responding to all reports from citizens, and helping local residents. But no less important task was and is the demining of liberated villages and towns”, he said.

Russian military has left behind thousands of dangerous ‘surprises’ - not only unexploded ammunition and armament storage but also specially installed land mines and mined equipment.

According to Klymenko, technicians of the National Police seized more than 3,000 explosive devices in Irpin.

These are:

• aviation bombs,

• remnants of the Iskander operational-tactical missile system,

• anti-tank missile systems,

• cluster munitions,

• anti-personnel mines OZM-72,

• projectiles to guns,

• mortar mines,

• automatic grenade launchers,

• improvised explosive devices and ammunition of various calibers.

All these items will be destroyed in a special place and will never be a threat to civilians.

"And today we can say that the first stage of demining in Irpin has been completed: places of army bases and active hostilities in the city have been swept, as well as battle positions and abandoned streets. The next stage of demining will be sweeping of dangerous objects from the city's residential buildings”, the head of the National Police said.

Earlier, volunteers and communal services removed garbage from almost one-fifth of the streets of the city of Irpin.

Russian military has been attacking Irpin, 5 kilometers from Kyiv, since the first days of the war. On February 27, Markushyn said that the attack on the city was repulsed, but the enemy began firing at it from the air. On March 28, the mayor announced the liberation of the city.
