The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Federal Chancellor of Austria Karl Nehammer spoke to journalists after having negotiations in Kyiv.
"We discussed several important questions. I'll be very brief. We talked about some important questions regarding our bilateral relationship. Regarding the full support for Ukraine for its future membership in the European Union. Also, we discussed the powerful sanction policy against Russia and the enhancement of that policy. I want to express my gratitude not only for the humanitarian help. I also want to thank the leadership of Austria for the equipment that will be helpful for us. This is the equipment for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, fire trucks, etc", – Zelenskyy said.
In turn, Nehammer declared his readiness to tighten sanctions against Russia until the end of the war in Ukraine.
"We will keep tightening sanctions within the European Union until the war ends. The new package of sanctions has just been adopted and it's not the last one," – the Austrian Chancellor said.
Deputy Premier Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna has stated that Ukraine might receive the European Union candidate country status in June.
Ukraine received a questionnaire for gaining the country candidate status from the EU on 8 April. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen handed it over to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President of the EU Commission reported on 8 April that Ukraine's application to enter the EU was to be presented to the European Council this summer.
