Ukrainian people who resist russian invasion are fighting not only for their independence and territorial unity, they are also fighting for European values, for democracy winning over autocracy, and for rule of law dominating over power and not the other way around. These were the words of The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen pronounced during the charity event Stand Up For Ukraine held on Saturday in Warsaw, according to Uniform.
“I was in Kyiv yesterday, I visited Bucha. I don’t have words to describe the horrors I saw in Bucha. This is the ugly face of Putin’s army which commenced this terror against people. I marvel at our brave Ukrainian friends who fight against all this. They are fighting our war. This is our fight that they lead. Because it’s not just Ukraine fighting for its independence and unity. They (Ukrainians - publisher) are also fighting to answer the question on whether democracy will be stronger or autocracy will dominate, whether the rule of power will be able to dominate the rule of law,” - stressed The President of the European Commission.

She also noted that today, together with the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, Europeans stand for their freedom, which means they stand for Ukraine.
“This is the very reason we all gathered here. We want to mobilize the world to help refugees - those who are in Ukraine and outside Ukraine. I hope that a lot of people will join. I want to thank Global Citizens for involvement and mobilizations of a great number of artists, athletes and famous people,” - Ursula von der Leyen added.
She thanked Polish President Andrzej Duda for organizing the charity event in Poland and reminded that Poland welcomed over 2 mln refugees from Ukraine, who received sincere support from Polish people.
Yesterday, while visiting Kyiv, The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen visited Bucha, where she saw with her own eyes all the consequences of russian army atrocities. She indicated that everyone who committed atrocities will be held responsible.
