73 bodies were exhumed from the mass grave near the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Bucha. This was reported to UNIAN by the mayor of Bucha Anatoliy Fedoruk.
The heads of the parliaments of Ukraine, Poland, and the Czech Republic were present during the exhumation.
Fedoruk also said that out of 403 bodies of civilians killed by russian troops during the occupation, 167 had been identified. The process of recognizing people by their relatives and friends is underway.
Yesterday the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan visited Bucha in Kyiv Region.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on missions of the International Criminal Court and international organizations to come to Bucha and other cities and villages of Kyiv region as soon as possible to gather evidence of russians committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Following the liberation of the Kyiv suburbs from russians, atrocities of the occupiers became known. The mayor of Bucha reported that 280 people were buried in a mass grave. All of them - civilians. Bodies of the lost and tortured citizens are still being found in the city liberated from occupiers. Some of them are even less than 16 years old. All these people were shot by russians, shot in the back of the head. Moreover, many bodies wore white bandages, specifically indicating that they were civilians.
In late February, Prosecutor Karim Khan personally initiated an investigation on russia's crimes against Ukraine. He qualifies the actions of russian military as "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity." The prosecutor noted that Ukraine is not a State Party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, thus it cannot directly transfer the issue to the Court office.
As of March 25, 41 countries have already appealed to the ICC in support of Ukraine. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova has appointed Howard Morrison, who has been a judge of The Hague court for 10 years, as her adviser. He will consult the Ukrainian prosecutor's office on russian war crimes.
