Russia declares 18 EU diplomats personae non gratae

Russia has declared 18 EU diplomats personae non gratae, they must soon leave russian territory.The information was published by the russian Foreign Ministry.

The russian Ministry summoned the EU Ambassador to russia Marcus Ederer. They made a protest about the expulsion on 5 April of 19 russian diplomats from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community.

The EU has responded to such actions by the russian federation.

"The European Union regrets the unjustified decision of the russian federation to expel 18 members of the European Union Delegation to the russian federation ... There are no grounds for Friday's decision by the russian authorities, except for a retaliatory step," the EU Press Secretary’s statement published on the website of the diplomatic service says.

The European Union said that "russia's course of action will further strengthen its international isolation".

The EU called on russia to end the war in Ukraine and "return to respecting international rules and cooperating in its international relations".

In March, Warsaw announced that it was expelling about 40 russian diplomats on suspicion of espionage.

Earlier, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia announced the expulsion of the russians.
