As a result of the morning shelling on April 16 in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, one person died, and several people were hospitalized.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko spoke about this on the air of the all-Ukrainian telethon, Hromadske Radio reports.
"It is not a secret that the day before yesterday or yesterday one of the russian generals said and stated that there would be attacks on key facilities and cities and did not exclude that there would be attacks on Kyiv. And this morning we felt these promises. Despite the fact that our air defense is working, our military is defending, but with all that, the explosions were in Darnytskyi district. One person died, several people are now hospitalized, doctors are fighting for their lives," Klitschko said.
He urged Kyiv citizens once again not to return to the capital yet.
“Now there is a very big discussion: to return to Kyiv or not to return, and many Kyiv citizens ask me, saying that the mayor will say in a week whether it is possible or not. We cannot forbid returning, we can only recommend. But we recommend, based on the recommendations of the military, who have more information," Klitschko said.
He noted that Kyiv was and remains the target of the aggressor.
“And we do not exclude that shelling of the capital will continue. I would like to address everyone once again. We cannot forbid, we can only recommend. If you have an opportunity to stay a little longer in those cities where it is safer, do it," he said.
In the morning of April 16, Kyiv was under fire. The explosions took place in Darnytskyi district in the city suburbs.
The Pentagon also said that Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities continue to be threatened by missile fire from russia.
