Pupils in russia to be taught History from first grade "to preserve historical memory"

The Minister of Education of the russian federation Sergei Kravtsov said that soon pupils will begin to study history from the first grade "to preserve historical memory."

He stated this at the first all-russian school historical forum "Strength in truth!", according to russian media.

Now history lessons in russian schools begin in the fifth grade.

Earlier, the russian Minister of Education also offered to introduce "positive practice" in schools – to start the week by raising the national flag under the anthem. This initiative has already been approved in Voronezh and Kaluga regions.

In July last year, russian President Vladimir Putin set up an interagency commission on historical education, which included "analyzing the activities of foreign structures that harm russia's interests" and "preparing counter-propaganda measures."

Putin's assistant, former Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky, has been appointed the chairman of the commission (he is now part of the negotiating delegation). Also last year, the russian Ministry of Education approved a series of textbooks on russian and general history edited by Medinsky. Earlier, Putin said that some school textbooks "are not written about us."

In 2016, a group of scientists demanded to deprive the Medical degree of Doctor of Science. The Minister's dissertation revealed serious errors, including factual ones.

A meeting of the specialized academic council of the Ural Federal University on the deprivation of the Medical Degree was scheduled for October 4, 2016, but at the request of the Minister it was postponed and then withdrawn altogether.

In 2019, the russian occupiers opened a military center for schoolchildren in Sevastopol, where children are taught how to handle weapons. During a festive event in occupied Donetsk, schoolchildren imitated the shooting of Ukrainians on stage.

Now, after russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, russian schoolchildren are being forced to write letters to the occupiers who are suffering losses in Ukraine. Children should write "warm words of support" and "wishes from ordinary russians" to war criminals.
