One person killed, two injured as civilian An-26 crashes down in Zaporizhzhya (updated)

According to the preliminary and unconfirmed information, the plane hit an electric pole, as a result of which the engine caught fire.

An emergency occurred in the Zaporizhzhia region on the morning of April 22. The An-26 plane, which was performing a technical flight, crashed.

This was reported in the regional military administration.

"An AN-26 plane crashed this morning in the Vilniansk district of the Zaporizhzhia region. The aircraft was performing a technical flight. There are victims," is said in the statement.

Update 16:41. The Military Regional Administration of Zaporizhzhia press center released photos and videos from the scene of the emergency, as well as a comment from the Military Regional Administration of Zaporizhzhia spokesman Ivan Arefyev.

According to him, law enforcement officers and rescuers are currently working on the scene. The causes and circumstances of the tragedy are being clarified.

The Military Regional Administration of Zaporizhzhia spokesman said there were three pilots on board of the crashed An-26. One of them died. Two were injured and are in hospital now.

Update. The An-26 that crashed in the Zaporizhzhia region did not belong to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is a civilian plane that performed a technical flight, said Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence.

"This is a civilian plane that has nothing to do with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is another crime of the russian federation, which shot down peaceful planes. This airline, which carried out the technical flight of this plane, has nothing to do with hostilities," the People's Deputy was quoted by UNN.
