Together with US allies, Canada handed over M-777 howitzers and correspondent ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF). This was announced on Twitter by the Minister of National Defense of Canada, Anita Anand.
She also announced the supply of armored vehicles and other kinds of support.
At the same time, CBC News, citing its sources in the defense sphere, notes that it is about the supply of four out of 37 M-777 howitzers that the country bought during the war in Afghanistan.
M-777 is an American field trailer howitzer with a 155mm caliber. Its range is 24-30 km.
Also, CBC writes that the aid package included a number of high-precision Excalibur shells left after the war in Afghanistan. These shells are GPS-guided and cost about 112 thousand dollars per unit.
CBC News also mentions that Canada recently sent part of its out-of-date Carl Gustaf anti-tank weapons stockpile to Ukraine. The Ministry of National Defense said it had provided "a significant number of additional" anti-tank missiles requested by Ukraine. Also, Ottawa has signed a contract for the maintenance and repair of specialized drone cameras that Canada has already delivered to Ukraine.
