In the war against Ukraine, Russia is using at least four submarines to strike Caliber missiles at land targets in the Ukrainian rear. Navy experts G.I. Sutton and Benjamin Pittet told in their comment to The Times.
According to the publication, these are currently submarines of the 877 "Paltus" project. Missiles are launched from a depth of up to 50 meters, making it difficult to capture them by radars and satellites.
According to experts, Russia began using submarines more often after the destruction of the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet - the "Moscow" cruiser, to avoid the risks of a counterattack by the Ukrainian Coast Guard. At the same time, they note that after the cruiser sank, the Russian navy began to behave more cautiously in the Black Sea.
