The world is ready to help save the people of Mariupol from russian bombing, but the russian side rejects all proposals.
This was stated by the adviser to the head of the President's Office Mykhailo Podolyak, who was quoted by the "Sluha Narodu" press service.
"The President and Chairman of the Presidential Office are constantly appealing to world leaders to help us convince the russian side of the need for a humanitarian corridor from Mariupol. Some political leaders turn to Putin through their personal channels, arguing that this is necessary for humanistic reasons, there is no reaction from the russian side," Podolyak said.
He stressed that the russians show absolute closeness, unwillingness to talk and make at least some concessions in terms of the humanistic component. For them, it is symbolic to destroy Mariupol and Azov, which defends the city.
"Every day there are attacks with the maximum use of all heavy artillery, aircraft to destroy Azovstal. The russians understand that there are children, civilians, but continue to bomb," the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office said.
However, according to him, both the leadership of Ukraine and world leaders do not give up trying to reach an agreement.
"There are enough brave people in the world, including political leaders, who are ready to carry out a mediation mission in Mariupol. That is, we are going there, and dozens of world leaders are ready to stand by us to take people. The world wants to help solve this great humanitarian catastrophe." Podolyak assured.
Hundreds of civilians remain at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. They came to the plant shelter in February, when russia's full-scale offensive began. All of them are still waiting for the evacuation, which the enemy does not allow.
According to the Donetsk Region Military Administration, an attempt to evacuate civilians from the plant was scheduled for April 29. There is no updated information on this yet.
On April 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was ready for urgent talks to evacuate people from Mariupol and was counting on UN support. During the talks between Zelenskyy and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, russia launched a missile strike on Kyiv.
Before visiting Ukraine, Guterres visited Moscow. Guterres' spokesman said Putin had agreed to evacuate civilians from Azovstal. However, the next day, the Kremlin said that "there were no specific agreements on assistance in evacuating civilians from Azovstal."
