Hundreds of peaceful civilians remain at the "Azovstal" plant in Mariupol. They came to the shelters of the enterprise back in February. All of them are waiting for the evacuation which the enemy doesn't allow.
The city mayor Vadym Boychenko reported that at the press briefing on 29 April. He expressed his hope for russians to have at least a drop of humanity left in them to let the civilians leave the plant.
There are a lot of women, children, and elderly people in the shelters there. The exact number is unknown and it's impossible to count them since there has been no ceasefire for over 60 days.
"There were around – as we counted the locals – more than 300 people hiding in the bomb shelters, but then people from the destroyed buildings joined them. Today you have to understand that the enemy forces are extremely powerful, they're dropping bombs that are ruining the infrastructure. We can't count the bomb shelters that haven't been destroyed yet and the number of people in them," – the mayor stated.
Boychenko emphasized that there was almost no water, food, or medicine left in the shelters.
"There's almost no food, no water, no medicine. And in these conditions, they are begging for the rescue. They have not a day, but mere hours left," – he highlighted.
Despite all the promises, the enemy doesn't allow people to evacuate from the "Azovstal". Russians offered Ukrainian troops to surrender but they keep fighting.
According to the Donetsk Region Military Administration, there were plans to try and evacuate the civilians from the plant today. There are no updates on the matter yet.
