Sanctions imposed on Russia for the war against Ukraine will not be lifted until Moscow reaches a peace agreement with Kyiv, stated German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with ZDF.
"We will not lift the sanctions until he reaches an agreement with Ukraine," he said, adding that the Ukrainian government will decide the conditions of peace.
According to Olaf Scholz, Vladimir Putin miscalculated, hoping to seize Ukrainian territories, announce the cessation of hostilities and get Western sanctions lifted.
Tomorrow, the EU will decide on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on Russian oil imports. The German government, among others, called for such a step.
