After five hours of discussions, the Bulgarian parliament approved the provision of assistance to Ukraine. About it reports Radio Bulgaria.
Chairman of the People's Assembly Nikola Minchev announced that Bulgaria will repair Ukrainian military equipment under the decision of the Parliament. Minchev said that Bulgaria will continue to support Ukraine in its accession to the EU, as well as Ukrainian citizens escaping the war.
"The military enterprises in Bulgaria will carry out repairs on Ukrainian military equipment and will continue to supply humanitarian aid, in particular medicines, clothing, and food," - Minchev said.
Bulgaria will ensure the possibility of importing Ukrainian grain to Varna and expanded energy cooperation, in particular, the supply of electricity and natural gas from Ukraine.
The proposal was made by the party "Continue the Change" and it was adopted by the votes of four members of the ruling coalition, as well as the parties “GERB” and “DPS”. Only members of the party "Renaissance" voted against it.
At the same time, Parliament did not give consent to the transfer of weapons and ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since 15:00 in front of the building of the People's Assembly, protesters gathered against the decision to military assistance to Ukraine. Within an hour, at the northern entrance of the Parliament gathered supporters of the “Fighter” movement, who support the decision to provide military assistance. A police presence was intensified around the Parliament, and traffic in front of the People's Assembly building was blocked.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy called Bulgaria to help with the repair of military equipment.
