The European Union plans to impose sanctions on the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill. This was reported by AFP agency.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented the sixth package of sanctions against russia for the war in Ukraine during a debate in the European Parliament. The draft of the new sanctions list, which AFP agency had access to, concerns 58 people.
Among them are Patriarch Kirill, many russian military men, and the wife, daughter and son of kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Sanctions should be considered by representatives of EU governments, who will make the final decision on implementation.
The sixth package of sanctions also envisages the disconnection of the key russian bank called Sberbank from SWIFT and the gradual oil embargo introduction.
