The EU plans to ban Russians from buying European real estate. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia includes a ban on real estate transactions. If approved, the proposal of the European Commission will suspend the conclusion of real estate agreements with citizens, residents, and legal entities of Russia. Sanctions prohibit the sale or transfer, directly or indirectly, of "ownership of immovable property situated in the territory of the European Union or shares in undertakings providing access to immovable property".

The ban applies to Russians who are not EU citizens and do not have a residence permit in EU member states. This does not apply to nationals or residents of the European Economic Area or Switzerland.

It will be recalled that the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia also provides for a new sanctions list of 58 people, including Patriarch Kirill, many Russian servicemen, as well as the wife, daughter and son of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
