At least seven people were injured as a result of the May 4 shelling of the Sviatohirsk Lavra (the Holy Mountains Lavra of the Holy Dormition). The enemy struck the Kramatorsk district from aircraft.
The occupants have targeted the Holy Mountains Lavra of the Holy Dormition, which is now a shelter for refugees from russian armed aggression, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
As a result of the shelling, the dormitory building was damaged. According to preliminary data, seven civilians were injured.
“Currently, police investigators and employees of the State Service for Emergency Situations are working at the scene of the accident,” noted the Office of the Prosecutor General.
They reminded that witnesses of war crimes can record and send evidence at warcrimes.gov.ua.
The Holy Mountains Lavra of the Holy Dormition is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It was opened in 1526 and belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate.
Churches and other religious buildings often come under russian fire. A priest died as a result of shelling in the village of Mykhailivka near Rubizhne in the Luhansk region. At least 15 religious buildings in the region have been damaged by enemy fire since late February, and temple staff has been injured.
Recently the body of Orthodox Church priest Myron Zvarychuk was found in a Kyiv morgue. He lived in Bucha on Grushevsky Street and had gone for humanitarian aid in early March.
On May 2, a missile strike in Odesa demolished the roof of a UOC church.
