Zelenskyy on evacuation of people from Mariupol: "For us to save them, "regime of silence" needs to continue"

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the issue of evacuation of people from Mariupol is constantly on the agenda.

He stated this in his video address.

The President said that 344 people were saved from the besieged city today.

"That's how many people left for Zaporizhzhia today. Our team is getting ready to meet them. To meet the same way as we met more than 150 people who were saved from "Azovstal." All of them receive the necessary assistance. All of them will receive the best possible care from our state," said Zelenskyy.

The President thanked everybody involved in making the evacuation operation possible and successful: Irina Vereshchuk, Andriy Yermak, David Arahamiya, UN representatives, the International Committee of the Red Cross, every single one who helped to reach an agreement and provide peace and evacuation corridors for people.

We negotiate and hope to continue rescuing people from "Azovstal" and Mariupol. There are still civilians there. Women, children. For us to save them, the "regime of silence" needs to continue. The Ukrainian side is ready to provide it. It takes time to just get people out from those basements, those underground shelters. Given the current situation, we can't use special equipment to clear the debris. Everything is done manually. But we believe that everything will work out," - said Zelenskyy.

He also said he had discussed this issue today with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"There was no single day that I didn't do it, that we didn't do it. And I'm grateful to everyone who helps," - said Zelenskyy.

Today the commander of the "Azov" Regiment, lieutenant colonel Denys Prokopenko, recorded a video address about the situation at the "Azovstal" in Mariupol. He said it was the second day that Russian troops had broken into the plant. The exhausting bloody combats continue there.
