The kremlin regime seeks to destroy the Ukrainian nation, so such actions must be recognized as genocide, and russia is a state that supports and carries out terrorism.
This is stated in a resolution, approved unanimously by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on Tuesday, May 10, reports Delfi.
In this document, the Lithuanian parliament stated that russian armed forces and mercenaries committed massive war crimes on the territory of Ukraine, especially in Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol, Borodyanka, and Hostomel. According to the document, the goal is seen as the complete or partial elimination of the Ukrainian nation, and its spirit by killing its members in whole families, including children, kidnapping them, torturing, raping, including juveniles, and humiliating the bodies of those killed and tortured.
“The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania recognizes the full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine by the armed forces of the russian federation and its political and military leadership, which began on February 24, 2022, as the genocide of the Ukrainian people,” the document states.
The resolution also states that all those responsible should be held accountable, and the international community should create a Special International Criminal Tribunal to investigate and assess russia's aggression against sovereign Ukraine.
The Seimas of Lithuania calls for this tribunal to have the power to issue international arrest warrants and for the inviolability of the state or heads of state and government and other state officials not to be limited by privilege from arrest.
“The russian federation, whose armed forces deliberately and systematically select civilian targets for bombing, is a state that supports and carries out terrorism,” the resolution said.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada appealed to the United States regarding the recognition of russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The Ukrainian parliament also called on the UN to set up a special tribunal to investigate the genocide committed by the russian federation.
