The US Senate has approved $4bn in emergency military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, NYT reports.

The bill was supported by 86 senators. 11 voted against it.

The document must now be signed by President Joe Biden. He is expected to do so as soon as possible, as Washington is in a hurry to continue military aid to Ukraine.

“Having accepted this emergency aid, the Senate can now say to the Ukrainian people: “Help is already on the way - real help, significant help. We Americans - all of us Democrats and Republicans - cannot afford to bury our heads in the sand while Vladimir Putin continues his vicious militancy against the Ukrainian people,” said New York Senator Chuck Schumer.

The aid package also includes $8.8bn for the Ukrainian government`s special fund. Another $4.4bn has been allocated for international help for natural disasters. In addition, $90m will go to help Ukrainian refugees.

We are reminding, that Volodymyr Zelensky recently met with a delegation of US senators; during the meeting, he expressed hope that the US Senate will promptly approve a package of additional funding to support the Ukrainian people.

Earlier, the media reported that Republican Senator Rand Paul objected to the vote in the Senate on the aid package to Ukraine.
