The US President Joe Biden arrived in South Korea on Friday. This is his first visit to Asia as the President, Reuters informed.
Mr. Biden's plane landed at the US air base in Osan, south of Seoul. Mr. Biden is scheduled to meet with Yoon Suk Yeol, the new South Korean President. Today, the both presidents will visit the Samsung Electronics plant, and tomorrow they will have a number of events.
Reporters said the key topic of the visit was the opposition to China, but South Korea may be wary in public speeches because Beijing is Seoul's main trading partner.
South Korea is expected to become one of the first members of the Indo-Pacific Economic Structure (IPEF), initiated by Mr. Biden.
Another topic of discussion will be North Korea, as its leader Kim Jong Un has refused to suspend tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Mr. Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, told reporters on his way to South Korea that U.S. cooperation with South Korea and Japan "will only be strengthened in spite of further provocations" by North Korea. It is possible that Pyongyang will hold new weapons tests at a time when Mr. Biden visits this region.
