President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Mark Daly, Speaker of the Upper House of the Irish Parliament, and Sean O’Farrell, Speaker of the Lower House of the Irish Parliament.
This was reported by the presidential press service.
Zelensky thanked the guests for their visit to Kyiv.
“I am grateful to the leadership of Ireland, and to you, and to the parliament for the strong support of Ukraine, our people in this difficult time. For supporting our struggle for freedom, our territorial integrity,” he said.
The President also noted the importance of increasing coordinated, unified pressure on russia from Ukraine's international partners. Now the key to this is the introduction of the sixth package of EU sanctions against russia.
“It is important for us that Europe remains united. This is a real strength and endurance. We have shown this to the world when our people have united against russian aggression. The unity of Europe is also important not only in support of Ukraine but also in the steps of the offensive against russia, first of all in the policy of sanctions,” Zelensky said.
The President stressed that Ukraine feels Ireland's support for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
The interlocutors also discussed the prospects for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. Zelensky informed about the relevant planned work, which is already underway, and invited Ireland to join the implementation of future projects in the framework of the reconstruction of our country.
Earlier the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland Simon Koveni declared that one billion euros of the frozen russian assets can be confiscated for payment of restoration of Ukraine.
