President Volodymyr Zelensky hopes that the second meeting of the partner countries at "Ramstein" Air Base, scheduled for 23 May 2022 online, will result in Ukraine receiving the necessary weapons to protect its territories from russian aggression.
The presidential press service reported this.
We have high expectations. I would call it a long-awaited process. We are grateful for the great military support provided by various countries. We hope that the issue on MLRSs (American multiple rocket launcher) supplies is solved positively. I have no secrets; we appeal to all countries, starting with the United States and finishing with every European country, as for MLRSs, which will allow Ukraine to seize the initiative and liberate its territory," - Zelenskyy said while answering media questions following meeting with Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa.
To those countries afraid to provide Ukraine with MLRS systems because they believe our state will attack russia, Zelenskyy reminded that the war is waged on Ukrainian territory. Donbas is a part of Ukraine despite the fact russian passports were issued there.
These are our territories, and we are moving step by step to liberate them. However, we cannot pay the price of dozens, hundreds of thousands of lives. Therefore, we ask you to help us. In some countries (weapons - edit.) are just sitting there without being used, but for us, these MLRS systems are a matter of survival,"- emphasized the President.
The President said Ukraine knows that russia is threatening certain states at various levels, trying to prevent the transfer of weapons to Ukraine. Zelenskyy addressed the countries not to be afraid and unite because that is what russia is really afraid of.
M270 MLRS is an American track-mounted multiple-launch rocket system designed to be used at any time of the day and in various weather conditions. They are used in indirect fire positions with a launch distance up to 120 km and damage area up to 25ha.
At the end of April, the American M270 MLRS multiple rocket launcher system "worked" for the first time on the occupiers in the Donetsk region.
