In textbooks for children from the occupied territories of Ukraine and Russia, the invaders decided to change the name of Kievan Rus, said the Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

The russians deleted the word Kievan (Kyivan). So from now on, students will be told about Rus'.

"This will deprive children of access to objective historical facts and destroy young Ukrainians' historical memory, national identity, and self-identification. Such actions of the occupiers violate Article 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, according to which the education of the child must develop respect for his or her own cultural identity, language and values, for the national values of the country in which the child is living, the country from which he or she may originate, and for civilizations different from his or her own," said Denisova.

In Mariupol, the occupiers are preparing to resume the work of schools. Before transitioning to russian programs, only three subjects will be taught: russian language/literature, russian history, and mathematics.
