"Residents of the region! Do not leave the shelters! Prepare protective face masks soaked in the soda solution," - emphasized the region's Head.

He stated that nitric acid is dangerous if inhaled, swallowed, or when it contacts the skin and mucous membranes.

"Acid fumes have an irritating effect on the respiratory tract. In the case of mild poisoning, there are signs of bronchitis, mild bronchiolitis, dizziness, drowsiness, and in case of severe poisoning - pulmonary edema. So people use gas masks to protect themselves against nitric acid fumes and fog," said Haidai.

The Head of the region published first aid advice if one gets affected by nitric acid.

"First aid: if nitric acid gets in the eyes, rinse them under running water for 10-30 minutes; if nitric acid gets on skin, wash the affected area with water, adding baking soda and soap; if swallowing nitric acid, gastric lavage with a large amount of water is indicated," - said Haidai. He noted that the residents of the Luhansk region, who have no mobile connection, received notifications about the incident and danger from local operation services. On the morning of 24 May 2022, the russian military shelled the enterprise "Azot" in Sievierodonetsk. The shelling killed four people.
