The Belarusian army is not capable of carrying out an offensive against Ukraine on its own. To do so, it needs russian support, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, Vadym Skibitskyy, has said.
According to him, russia keeps one third of its battalion and tactical groups in reserve on the territory of Belarus.
Meanwhile, the Belarusian army has seven BTGs, which are currently deployed near the borders with Ukraine. The number of the personnel is 4,000-6,000. It will take Belarus three to four weeks to form a strike group, including 2-3 weeks to bring the russian units back to the territory of the republic.
According to Skibitskyy, 1,500 servicemen of Russian units are deployed in Belarus, among them are the air component, air defence, special purpose units and missile troops.
Belarusian and russian troops are currently conducting joint exercises along the entire border to practice their actions on the territory of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian intelligence said that the main threat is posed by sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
Skibitskyy also added that it was highly unlikely that the Belarusian armed forces would conduct offensive combat operations on their own.
Recently, the russians resumed the use of Iskanders from the territory of Belarus.
The Ukrainian intelligence said that the massive missile strikes on Ukraine that took place from the territory of Belarus last night were a russian provocation aimed at involving the Belarusians in the war.
