Ukrainian parliamentary ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has called on the UN secretary-general, the IAEA and the international community to send a security mission to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant seized by the russians.

"Once again, I call on the UN secretary general, the IAEA and the entire world community to take possible measures to send a security mission to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, fully demilitarize the NPP territory and provide safety guarantees to employees of the nuclear plant and residents of Energodar city for them to maintain the plant. Today the relevant letters have been prepared and sent," Lubinets said on Telegram.

In his opinion, only determined joint actions of the international community will save millions of human lives. After all, russia continues acts of nuclear terrorism against Zaporizhzhya NPP facilities and its personnel.

According to the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate, the Zaporizhzhya NPP site is now mined and some of its employees have been tortured, kidnapped and threatened. This threatens the lives of employees and prevents the normal operation of the facility.

Lubinets stressed that the presence of russian troops at the Zaporizhzhya NPP poses a threat to tens of millions of Ukrainians and to the entire world.

On 5 August, the occupiers shelled the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant twice a day, triggering a hydrogen leak and radiation dispersion. The shelling damaged the nitrogen-oxygen station and the combined auxiliary building.

Ukrainian parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said that by declaring its readiness to destroy Europe's largest nuclear power plant, russia is resorting to nuclear terrorism.
