Russian mortar shelling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP site in occupied Enerhodar triggered an emergency protection and shut down operating power unit 5, Ukraine's atomic energy company Enerhoatom has said on Telegram.
"Today, , at 4:57 on 1 September 2022, as a result of another mortar attack by Russian occupying troops on the site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the emergency protection went off and shut down operating unit 5," the report reads.
The ZNPP-330 kV auxiliary backup power line was also damaged. The inoperative power unit No 2 was de-energised in transient mode, with the diesel generators running.
"This is the second time in the last 10 days that the criminal actions of the ruscists have caused the unit to shut down and de-energize the plant," Enerhoatom said.
Power generating unit No 6 continues to operate in the Ukrainian energy system and at the same time feeds ZNPP's own needs.
