Russia keeps about 800 aircraft near Ukrainian borders on its own territory, in occupied Crimea and in Belarus, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, has said at a briefing.

"The enemy has concentrated about 800 aircraft around Ukraine, which are deployed at 40 military airfields. It uses the airfields of Belarus, Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea," Ihnat said.

He specified that 430 Russian aircraft and 340 helicopters are located on Ukrainian territory. The enemy uses fighter jets to patrol the skies over the Russian Federation, Belarus and Crimea, as well as the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Russia uses long-range and strategic aircraft to bombard Ukraine with cruise missiles of various types. There are also A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft and Il-22 repeater aircraft in the sky," he added.

The Russians conduct around 200 sorties a day, and more than 38,000 sorties have been recorded since the start of the full-scale war.

Ukraine's air defence forces have destroyed around 850 enemy air targets since February.
