MFA responds to Italian Senator's statement that it is up to international community to make decisions on Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the statement of Italian Senator Massimiliano Romeo that the decision on Ukraine "should be made by the international community". The Foreign Ministry said that this is only his personal opinion, the spokesman of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleh Nikolenko said.

"The statement of the Italian senator reflects his personal opinion. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni clearly articulated the position of Italy: the need to continue supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, and the undeniable right of Ukrainians to determine their future," noted Nikolenko.

He noted that almost in every country there are politicians who will try to please Putin.

"At the same time, they should realize that by spreading Russian narratives, they encourage Russia to continue its crimes against Ukraine," he stressed.

Nikolenko added that without peace in Ukraine there will be no peace in Europe. "Therefore, Italian senators should be interested in the victory of Ukrainians if they really care about the interests of their country."

For the record, Italian senator from the League party Massimiliano Romeo stated that Ukrainians should not make all decisions regarding their future on their own. In his opinion, the international community should play a role in this, taking into account the interests of the country.
