The Russian Red Cross stole the property of the Ukrainian society in Crimea, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has said on Facebook.

According to him, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society owned 10 premises on the peninsula with a total area of 641 square meters, as well as six cars and office equipment for staff.

"All this property was 'occupied' by the Russian Red Cross with the tacit consent of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, of which both Ukrainian and Russian societies are members. Since 2014, we have seen neither public condemnation of this theft, nor internal work to return the property to the Ukrainian Society and compensation for the value of real estate," the ombudsman stressed.

He noted that he personally appealed to the ICRC with a letter in which he asked to explain the seizure of the property of the Red Cross Society in Ukraine by the Russians and its transfer to the Russian one.

"Unfortunately, as of today, I have not received any response. And given the fact that I have not received a response to the appeal on the compliance with the principles of the International Red Cross Movement of the Russian Red Cross support for the mobilisation campaign announced by Putin, I can conclude that Russia's financial contributions to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are more valuable than the values of the organisation," Lubinets added.
