The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the statement of the Mayor of the Latvian city of Daugavpils Andrejs Elksniņs, who said that Crimea "belongs to Russia", and "not only Russia" is responsible for the atrocities of the occupiers in Bucha.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko noted on Facebook that Elksnins justifies Russia's crimes in Ukraine. It is not surprising that his political force was on the sidelines of politics after the last elections to the Latvian Saeima.

"Fortunately, the statements of this marginal figure do not reflect either the official position of Latvia, which is friendly to us, or the views of the vast majority of Latvians, who not only sincerely sympathize, but also actively help Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression," he stressed.

The Mayor of Daugavpils represents the Social Democratic Party “Harmony”. He graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University.
