The administration of US President Joe Biden discussed three different models for ending the war in Ukraine. Each of them has its adherents in the administration, but only one is supported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Washington Post writes.
This is a complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, including the territories of the east and Crimea occupied in 2014.
Another is withdrawal to the 2014 lines. A third level of withdrawal would include Donbas, but not Crimea.
“The latter two options Zelenskyy has made clear he will not support, noting that peace can only come when the Russian invaders have retreated from all occupied territory,” journalists said.
But in their face-to-face meeting on Wednesday,Biden sought Zelenskyy’s “current thoughts about what that should look like,” the senior official said, while acknowledging that “it’s sort of an academic discussion at this point,” since there are no indications that Russia is interested in talking.
At a joint briefing with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Biden said that he did not see Putin's readiness to end the war. "President Zelensky, you have made it clear that you are open to pursuing peace, but Putin is not. You’re open to pursuing a just peace. We also know that Putin has no intention of stopping this cruel war," he said.
