As of Tuesday, 14 February, 136 Ukrainian citizens who were in Turkey during the earthquakes have been found. Thirty-seven Ukrainians were evacuated, and 10 of our citizens were rescued from the rubble, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said on Facebook.
According to him, 7 Ukrainians are currently missing, and one person is hospitalized in stable condition.
"Unfortunately, the earthquake killed 5 Ukrainian citizens, including a family from Zaporizhzhya. The Embassy is taking measures to prepare the repatriation of the victims' bodies," said Nikolenko.
In the near future, diplomats plan to evacuate 22 Ukrainian citizens from the affected southern region. A second group of consuls is heading to the disaster area to coordinate on-site searches for missing citizens, assist the victims, and ensure the evacuation of Ukrainians to other Turkish regions and Ukraine.
Reports say that the bodies of a family from Zaporizhzhya, 46-year-old Yulia Petrova and her two sons, Zakhar (10) and Matviy (5), were found under the rubble of a house destroyed in the earthquake in Antakya. They had been in Turkey since April last year.
A series of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria killed more than 35,000 people.
