Today, 20 February, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes.

Nine years ago, during the Revolution of Dignity, 18-20 February became the bloodiest days in the confrontation between the Ukrainian people and the government of then-President Viktor Yanukovych. In one day, several dozen people were killed in clashes with security forces, and snipers shot at activists to kill.

Currently, this day is celebrated every year on 20 February, according to the presidential decree of 11 February 2015 "On honouring the feat of the Revolution of Dignity members and perpetuating the memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes".

105 of those killed were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, and three foreigners - Belarusian citizen Mykhaylo Zhiznevskyy and Georgian citizens Zurab Khurtsya and David Kipiani - were posthumously awarded the Order of the Heavenly Hundred.

On 17 February 2021, the Verkhovna Rada recognized the Revolution of Dignity as one of the key moments of Ukrainian state-building and an expression of the national freedom concept.

This year's program of events to commemorate the Heroes includes several exhibitions, including in the bell tower of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, roundtables, a memory walk, and others. The events will be held under the slogan: "The Heavenly Hundred - the first heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian war."
