By the next heating season, Ukraine needs to strengthen the protection of energy facilities and focus on energy decentralization, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said in a video address.
"We are considering all scenarios and will do everything to approach the next winter ready for any threat. In six months, our power engineers, government officials, the security and defence sector, and everyone involved in the implementation of the relevant tasks must do very specific things," he said.
According to the president, it is necessary to strengthen the protection of energy facilities, restore the infrastructure that has been destroyed by Russian strikes over the past six months, and give more opportunities to people within the framework of the energy system decentralization project.
"We want people to be able to generate and supply electricity on their private territory, at their private facilities. This is a big job, it has already begun," Zelenskyy said.
Since October, Russia has carried out 31 air attacks on energy infrastructure. In preparation for the next heating season, Ukraine will simultaneously strengthen the protection of electricity distribution systems and generation facilities. Currently, power plants already have air and missile defence systems.
