Ukraine, UK sign digital trade agreement

On 20 March, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a digital trade agreement, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine has said.

The document is a legal framework for the greater development of digital economy – from e-commerce to cybersecurity – and trade in digital products and services between the two countries. The agreement also aims to prevent barriers in the future.

The document was signed by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliya Svyrydenko and the Secretary of State for the Department for Business and Trade, President of the Board of Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities Kemi Badenoch.

According to Svyrydenko, the implementation of the agreement will deepen Ukraine's participation in global supply chains, promote women's participation in digital economy, and reduce barriers to participation in global digital trade. It will also strengthen the Ukrainian-British investment partnership.

This is the second digital trade agreement signed by Ukraine. Our country signed the first one with Singapore. The document complements the Agreement on Political Cooperation, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the UK. It will come into force after all domestic procedures are completed.

Ukraine and the UK agreed to sign this agreement last December. In the summer, London began negotiations with Kyiv to remove barriers to digital trade as part of its support for Ukraine after Russia's invasion.
