Ukraine is closely monitoring Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said.

"We expect Beijing to use its influence on Moscow to stop its aggressive war against Ukraine," he said.

As Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba emphasized during a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart last week, restoring Ukraine's territorial integrity "should be the centrepiece of all diplomatic efforts."

"We are ready for a closer dialogue with China to restore peace in Ukraine under the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the latest UN General Assembly resolution on this issue," the minister emphasized.

During his visit to Moscow today, Xi Jinping called China and Russia "good neighbours and reliable partners." This is Xi's first trip to Russia in four years. He will also be the first foreign leader to meet with Putin after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Russian president.
