On 12 May, the Belgian government approved a new aid package for Ukraine worth EUR 92 million, RTBF reports.

Half of the amount is earmarked for new military aid, including the supply of armoured vehicles, weapons and ammunition.

"The success of this new aid will depend on the speed with which the new equipment can be delivered to Ukraine. Our country's goal with this new package of arms and ammunition is to meet the needs on the ground in a timely manner in a very short time," said Belgian Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder.

Negotiations with the Ukrainian army are ongoing.

In addition to military aid, Belgium will allocate EUR 46 million to support the population of Ukraine and strengthen the Belgian diplomatic presence.

The amount of humanitarian aid will be increased to USD 24 million, which will be distributed in large cities and in combat zones in coordination with the United Nations to meet basic needs such as education, healthcare and food security. Some USD 8 million will be used to rebuild Ukraine through funds created by the European Investment Bank and the World Bank.

According to The Guardian, Belgium received the funds allocated for Ukraine in the form of taxes on seized Russian assets.
