The Cabinet of Ministers has raised the electricity tariff for households to UAH 2.64/kWh. It will take effect from 1 June, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko has said at a briefing after a government meeting, Suspilne reports.
Halushchenko introduced an urgent resolution to increase electricity prices. He noted that the increase in tariffs should ensure the stability of the power system damaged by Russian strikes in the next heating season.
"If we had not made this decision, we would have been without electricity next winter. This decision will enable us to ensure the stability of the power system. Unfortunately, we have still lost significant generation capacity. We are moving away from the current scenario until the next heating season," the minister said.
Currently, Ukrainians pay UAH 1.44 per kWh if they consume up to 250 kWh per month, and UAH 1.68 per kWh if they consume more than 250 kWh per month.
