Canada is allocating CAD 500 million (about USD 400 million) in military assistance to Ukraine, Ukrinform has reported.

"Canada is committed to responding to Russia's illegal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine by continuing to provide military assistance to Ukraine, including an additional CAD 500m to support its ability to respond to Russian aggression," the Canadian prime minister's office said in a statement during Justin Trudeau's visit to Ukraine.

It is noted that the new security assisstance package also envisages the transfer of 288 AIM-7 missiles to Ukraine for air defence.

In addition, Canada is extending the mandate of the UNIFIER military training mission until 2026, which has already trained more than 35,000 Ukrainian military personnel over the past eight years.

Ottawa will also join efforts to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters and assist in the maintenance of these aircraft.

As part of the international "tank coalition", Canada will help organise the operation of a Leopard 2 tank maintenance centre in Poland.

In addition, Canada will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 10,000 105-mm shells and in the coming weeks will complete the delivery of 122 Roshel armoured vehicles, as previously announced. So far, 88 of these vehicles have arrived in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau adopted a joint declaration in Kyiv today. In particular, Ukraine and Canada reaffirmed their support for the investigations of the International Criminal Court prosecutor. Canada also endorses the key principles of the Ukrainian peace formula.
