According to the latest update as of 6.48 p.m., the Russian missile attack on central Chernihiv on 19 August claimed seven lives, including of one child, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.
He added that 129 people were wounded, including 15 children and 15 police officers.
As of 1.43 p.m., at least six people were reported killed, including a six-year-old child, when a Russian missile hit the Drama Theatre in central Chernihiv, the Armed Forces said.
Patrol police attempted to resuscitate the child to no avail. The child's mother is in grave condition. There were up to 50 victims at the time.
As of 1 p.m., the Interior Ministry reported that five people were killed and 37 more were injured. There are 11 children among the injured. All the victims are receiving medical assistance.
Chernihiv acting mayor Oleksandr Lomako said that the Russian missile hit the area of Krasna Ploshcha and adjacent streets. As of 1 p.m., 11 people have been rushed to hospitals, two of them in bad condition.
According to the head of the Chernihiv regional military administration, Vyacheslav Chaus, Russia is likely to have used a ballistic missile.
The State Emergency Service said the roof of the Drama Theatre was ruined by the strike, which caused a fire. Windows were smashed at a nearby fire station. A fire at a local shop has already been extinguished.
"A Russian missile hit the centre of the city, our Chernihiv. The square, the Polytechnic Institute, the theatre. An ordinary Saturday afternoon that Russia turned into a day of pain and loss. There are dead, there are wounded..." President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Operatyvnyy ZSU Telegram channel published a video showing the moment the theatre was hit.
