Kyiv city councilor Serhiy Ilnytskyy (European Solidarity) was killed in action near Kurdyumivka, Donetsk Region, the party has said on its website.
"A great loss for all of us. A friend, a member of the Kyiv city council from the European Solidarity, Serhiy Ilnytskyi, has died. He has been fighting for our Ukrainian Donbas since 2014. He was killed there, in Donbas, near Kurdyumivka," party leader Petro Poroshenko said on Facebook. The wake for Ilnytskyy will be held in Kyiv, he added.
The first deputy commander of Dmytro Yarosh's Ukrainian Volunteer Army, commander of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army's South detachment in the 28th Brigade, Col Serhiy Ilnytskyy (call sign Sokil) became a member of the Kyiv city council from the European Solidarity party in April 2013.
Ilnytskyy has been fighting at the frontline since the beginning of the hostilities. A veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participant in the antiterrorist operation, and retired colonel, he volunteered to serve at the front following the example of his paramedic son. As a career military officer, he became the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army. He holds the Order of Merit.
