Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko has said that the situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant has been deteriorating recently, Ukrinform reports citing the national news telethon.

He recalled that the plant has been out of operation for more than a year, while Ukraine has been supplying electricity to ZNPP to ensure the functioning of safety systems.

"But this is a nuclear generation facility. And it is necessary to carry out appropriate works to maintain the condition of the equipment. These works are not being carried out. The situation is called equipment degradation," the minister said.

Last week, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said that the Russians wanted to carry out a controlled release of radiation at ZNPP. The crisis moment has passed, but Russia may repeat it. According to Budanov, the Russians wanted to artificially restart the system.
