Almost 3,500 trucks are stuck in a queue due to the blockade of the Ukrainian-Polish border. Polish hauliers continue to block traffic at four checkpoints, State Border Service spokesman Andriy Demchenko has told the news telethon.
The largest queue is in front of Shehyni checkpoint - 1,200 vehicles and Yahodyn checkpoint - 900 vehicles.
There is some progress during the day, but not as much as on 6 November.
"We do not see any easing of the restrictions on the Uhryniv crossing point, where empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes can cross the border to leave Ukraine, so far, so that the implementation of certain agreements would give impetus to the increase in vehicles," added Demchenko.
Blocking of the border by Polish carriers:
- On 6 November, Polish carriers went on strike at the border crossing points with Ukraine. As a result, traffic for trucks has been hampered. The Polish carriers' dissatisfaction is related to competition after the liberalisation of international transport between Ukraine and the European Union. They claimed that the strike could last for several months and affect all checkpoints.
- The Ukrainian side tried to persuade Polish carriers to resume truck traffic on the Ukrainian-Polish border. However, representatives of Polish road hauliers said that negotiations with Ukrainian officials had failed to resolve the dispute.
- Polish farmers joined the strike of the hauliers and protested at the Ukrainian-Polish border. In particular, the protest is taking place at the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint.
- Despite accusations that Polish carriers were blocking military aid at the border, the Polish government denied this.
- In addition, Hungarian carriers intend to hold a demonstration at the Záhony-Chop checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, demanding the cancellation of preferences for Ukraine in the field of freight transport.
