Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Norway on Wednesday (13 December) for a previously unannounced visit to discuss support for Ukraine's defence against Russian invasion, Reuters reports, citing a statement from the Norwegian government.

Zelenskyy and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre will hold meetings on Norway's continued support for Ukraine.

The leaders of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland are also set to meet in Oslo on Wednesday for a planned Nordic summit.

"Norway will continue to support Ukraine's fight for self-defence. We are providing targeted long-term support to help Ukraine in its fight for freedom and democracy," Støre said in a statement.

Later, the president's press service confirmed his visit to Oslo to participate in the second Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit.

"Together with the leaders of Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden, we will talk about strengthening defence, political and economic cooperation, about our common future in Europe. Our goal is security and a just and lasting peace on the continent," the President said.

The Head of State noted that he would also hold bilateral negotiations with the participants of the Summit. He will meet with His Majesty King Harald V, visit Storting, talk to Norwegian politicians and businessmen.

He added that Ukraine's efforts are also important for ensuring freedom and security here in Norway.
